The Election of President Obama - America's Wake-Up Call

I believe the Obama administration and Congress have greatly underestimated the shift to the right this country has taken. Certainly the Tea Party movement has been instrumental in highlighting this (not driving the shift, but highlighting the shift). America is divided right now. It is divided between the Producers and the Consumers. The Producers represent the majority who support capitalism, founding principles, small government, low taxes, reduction or elimination of entitlements and the American Dream. The Producers are fed up with the rantings of the left that the wealthy do not pay their fair share in taxes. The Producers understand that in a free America those who achieve the American Dream should be rewarded and held up as a model for Americans, not punished for their success with higher taxes. The Producers believe we have very limited rights and that the constitution best articulates these limited rights. Specifically the right to self-defense, the right to vote, the rights embodied in the Bill of Rights and the rule of law. Certainly there are other "rights" but the point is they are intentionally limited by the constitution. Producers believe, like our founders, that rights are limited and most everything else is a privilege;if you want it you need to go out and earn it.
The Consumers have dependency issues. They long for a European-style government in which entitlements are broad and far reaching and paid for by the wealthy (aka, those who achieve the American Dream). They do not understand what capitalism is or what the American Dream is. They disagree with our founders that government should be limited and believe government is at its best when it is providing them with a broad range of benefits. Benefits which they see as a right include: health benefits, retirement benefits, long-term unemployment benefits, education and for some, food and housing.

We are at a fork in the road in this country. Left is European-style government; right is back to basics founding principles with a focus on small government, low taxes and limited government interference with the private sector economy. When the fog clears, those who love America will be glad that Obama was elected. It woke us up. We now realize how easily the country can be taken over by socialist forces intent on dismantling the America our founders fought so hard to create. True, patriotic Americans now realize how fragile these incredible gifts (Democratic Capitalism, the American Dream, liberty and the right to self-determination) given to us by our founders are. The tide has turned and I am glad the Obama administration and Congress are unaware that Americans have woken up to the threat they present. November will be their wake-up call.
